It’s been over a thousand years since Viking explorers discovered the remarkable land of Iceland. When establishing the first settlements they naturally brought in their own sheep. Astonishingly, during all this time the breed has not changed; the sheep remain the same hearty animals, well adapted to the environment. Not only is this breed noted for providing the finest quality lamb, but also for an outstanding quality wool.
SPECIAL NOTE: A critical point to observe is ever since the very first establishments of Iceland, outside breeds have never been brought in. Strict national regulations continue to ensure this will never happen. The results are an extraordinary and highly evolved species of sheep that when coupled with Iceland's distinct environment raise the finest lambs available in the world today. In addition this make diseases that afflict the lower latitudes virtually unknown in Iceland.
